Fee Only Financial Planning
Most financial advisors are compensated by a third-party, usually by commission on investment and insurance products that are sold to their clients.
It’s kind of like going into a car dealership and asking the salesperson which car you should buy: the used family sedan or the shiny new sports car. The answer will always be the one which makes them the most commission, no matter which one is actually best for you.
It’s easy to see that there is an obvious conflict and room for potential bias when an advisor is compensated on type of products they sell you. Some bad apples could recommend options and products that are not necessarily the best option for you to earn a higher commission or meet sales quotas. And even the best of the best of these advisors will always be limited to their company’s objectives.
